I don’t know any egg-laying wool-milk-sow. Green and opaque all year round – only Thuja and co. remain. However, these sometimes grow quite rapidly. Besides, they are perversely bourgeois and in my opinion also ugly. ;)
One of the easiest hedge plants to care for is the Spirea shrub (Spiraea arguta). It does not grow endlessly tall – usually it stops at 2-3m. In summer it has many small leaves and is opaque. It blooms wonderfully in white. Think about why you absolutely need opacity in winter? Are you an ice swimmer?
As a nature lover, it is best to plant a bird protection hedge with various native woody plants. There are usually lists from the nature conservation office in your area. Then the feeding house and the nest box will work well too. :)
Although I have not yet started construction and thus certainly not the garden, I have chosen the following two hedge variants:
- Cornus mas (Cornelian cherry), natural garden for birds and insects, blossoms March/April, fruit edible (Vitamin C), sunny location, ideal for soil stabilization on slopes. Not evergreen, but also opaque in winter if well grown together.
- Rose hip, natural garden for birds, blossoms in autumn.
