Hello and good day,

Here is my first post. Please move the topic if it is incorrectly placed here.

We are currently building our "Altersruhesitz" as a bungalow KfW Efficiency House 55. Until now, we have had houses without technical protections. Now we are considering installing a possible minimum standard. However, we have no experience with the minimum standard. What do you consider essential for house construction? Perhaps you can also name your suggestions with any associated costs. Please only list minimum standards. As is known, there are many expensive options upward, and we do not want that.
Which fire alarm devices/smoke detectors do you have?

Thank you in advance!

Best regards

It strongly depends on the respective area and the crime statistics (especially if you also care about burglary protection). Also, smoke detectors etc. are still not mandatory everywhere.

Otherwise, regarding the detectors: simply have VdS certified ones installed, possibly networked with each other.

What would be essential for me:

Smoke detectors in every room
CO detectors (if there are heating appliances)
CO2/VOC detectors for the ventilation system
Humidity detectors in the bathrooms
Leak detectors at tapping points
Weather station with rain/sun/wind meter etc. for shading and other technical features.
Window contacts also for shading/heating/ventilation/alarms/presence/absence detection etc.
Temperature sensors at strategic locations

I would also add door contacts. And motion detectors (also outside).

I recommend masonry. Fill unavoidable exterior wall openings with windows or doors.

Jokes aside. Security is a very individual matter. Everyone will tell you something different when it comes to preventing burglaries.

Must-haves for me are smoke detectors, preferably interconnected. There should also be one in the garage. If I had a fireplace, then a CO detector there.
As passive security, you get a few mushroom locks on the windows/patio doors.
Both measures together should cost no more than €1000.

Against intrusive new housing estate tourists, I recommend fencing off the property as soon as possible, even if only with a flutter edge or wooden posts with rabbit wire. The audacity of some fellow citizens is really remarkable.

Build in an obvious weakness with an (electric, bear, acid, pick-your-poison) trap behind it.

Otherwise, I can only repeat my contribution from another thread: Get yourself a dog! Best alarm system and, in the appropriate size, also security personnel in one!

Only mechanical resistance helps against break-ins. Delay combined with noise or brightness could be annoying enough for the intruders to leave promptly. Cameras are nice but do not deter anyone from anything.
