What are common parquet sealants?

Our parquet (Can. Maple) was newly laid and sealed by a professional company. The floor seems very sensitive to us and looks rather dull. Could this be due to a faulty sealing? Our parents have had parquet for over 20 years – but oak. It is much less scratched and still shines.

Did they have better sealings in the past? (I’ve heard something like that, but they were still heavily mixed with solvents and are therefore rarely used today, but are said to have been better?!)

I’m grateful for any tips, after all, the whole thing should last a few more years.

Parquet sealing is often water-based nowadays, which basically hardly differs in hardness from the solvent-based sealings of "the old days". In terms of gloss level, there are differences from sealing to sealing; here the choice of sealing is also decisive: "matte, satin, glossy, high-gloss." Usually, satin is used, which has a certain shine without being too sensitive.

If the parquet scratches too easily, it could be that the coating was not applied professionally or the wrong varnish was used; this needs to be clarified. I consider it reasonable to always apply at least a 3-fold sealing; at the end of the coating process, a care treatment should still be carried out.
