Hello dear community,

we slowly want to activate our (construction) water on the property.

For this, we want to use the existing (old) well. It was supposedly still used until "recently." It is a pipe in the ground in a pit. There is a tap at the top. The pump and the connection (simply a flexible hose, we thought) to the tap are missing.
The property is just under 1000m². The well is only intended to be used for garden irrigation. The house connection is through city water.

Which garden pump / well pump would you recommend? We would now simply tend towards the classic turquoise/light blue brand for the garden. How should the pump be sized? Can it be left installed in winter or does it have to be removed because of frost?

Thank you very much for your experiences.

Greetings to everyone.

Photo? What kind of pipe is that? We also have an old well, but that was about a DN110 pipe. A submersible pump was lowered into it... So submersible pump or suction pump?

You can use a simple submersible pump. Whether it is from Gardena, Güde, or Aldi doesn’t really matter for private use. If it’s only for watering, the flow rate is secondary. You need to pay attention to the delivery height; standard submersible pumps have about 5 to 8 meters delivery height. The cable is usually about 10 meters long. For a dry electrical connection, you can, for example, use a safety box for Schuko plugs. I would design the outlet above the well without a faucet. This way, the water column can flow back down after switching off, so the hose won’t freeze. It’s even better if the pipe is flexible up to the outlet. The pump can simply stay in the water. You need to create a way to switch the pump on and off next to the outlet.

Oh right yes... definitely a suction pump. I don't know how deep the drilling is, nor where the groundwater level is. I might get that from the [Baugrundgutachtenbericht].

I have to photograph the pipe. Photo is coming. Now I'm not sure anymore either. Is the difference only in the pipe diameter? So whether [Saug- oder Tauchpumpe].

Well, with DN110 and a submersible pump with float switch, that won’t work.
