Water softening system

we are a 2-unit house (yes 110 sqm) that is newly built. Ground floor one apartment, upper floor two apartments. Unfortunately, the water in the city is very hard.

The idea was to install a water softening system.

Offered are BWT Aqua Life S versus Grünbeck GX 5. Grünbeck is more expensive.

Question to the specialists, which would you favor?

Also compare the maintenance costs... with BWT they are beyond good and evil. We are currently looking for an installer to take over the maintenance, but it’s not that easy to find. Our BWT cost €1500, they want a hefty €320 for maintenance per year.

I’d rather wait and maintain the system myself and buy a new one every 5 years.

Do you need an Aqua-Stop? So do you have a drain or a lifting system?

Our small BWT has a fatal design flaw for me. When you turn on the system, it flushes first... which makes sense because the system doesn’t know how long the water has been standing.
But if the power fails during the flushing process, the system keeps flushing... without an Aqua-Stop your basement will fill up. BWT wants €500 for the stopper.
Otherwise, I am completely satisfied with the system, but the designers should take another look at this. We have already had two cases where the power was briefly back on during an outage and then went out again.

According to customer service, not that much water flows through that you would notice it, and usually households don’t have no power for longer than 2-3 hours anyway.
For us, that drains off through a siphon.
