Hello,

I would like to have some supply lines and shut-off valves replaced in my house (Albtau).

The plumber is offering me a house water filter after the water meter and says that this is mandatory according to the Drinking Water Ordinance.

Is he right?

The fact is: it has worked fine without one for the last 20 years, and I don’t know anyone in old buildings who has one.

Thanks for the advice
Daniel

PS: Pressure reduction according to the supplier is not necessary, as the supply point is between 2.8 and 3.3 bar.

Yes, mandatory without exception in case of change.

Also, every house that does not have one should have one retrofitted, even old non-returnable ones should be replaced with returnable ones. This significantly reduces dirt. All larger particles are held back this way. Such a filter with a pressure reducer costs about 120 to 200 euros plus installation. This should be worth the health of everyone. It also prevents larger deposits caused by dirt in the own water pipes.

Thank you for the answer. That's a shame. I would like to avoid that because it is tedious to constantly get to the spot where the pipes are to flush. No light and some other inconveniences... I also simply cannot find the spot where it is supposed to be written.

In the supply regulations or in the drinking water ordinance, I suppose.

Just lay a loop or something similar to get to it.
And once or twice a year, you can also take a flashlight in hand.
Or hire someone to maintain it. Then you drink coffee while that's being done.

He just shocked me with the statement that I should go down there every month. I guess I will just extend the interval to quarterly and hope that is okay.
