Hello everyone,

we have been living in our new building for a little over half a year. When I wanted to go up to the attic today, a wasp looked at me. I was a bit shocked, probably the wasp too. Now I am wondering: Isn't the roof sealed? Or is it normal that there are openings through which wasps can fly in? It is a cold roof and constructed in such a way that you can see the wooden beams in the roof substructure.

Many thanks for your assessment
Mr. Stein

Are ventilation grilles installed at the eaves?

No. The edge of the eaves is fitted with a wooden board.

The ridge should be open or equipped with a grille for ventilation reasons. Wasps can easily get in there. It is not a defect, it is simply a cold roof.

Thank you for the answers. And is there any way I can make it uncomfortable for the wasps to nest there?
