Hello forum,
we are currently in the middle of planning our single-family house.
We had the question whether a 17.5 cm wall is wide enough to install a built-in sliding door, or if a 24 cm wall thickness is needed for that?!?
The sliding door is supposed to separate the kitchen area from the living/dining room.

Thank you very much in advance

Good morning. Nice cut! When I see the plan, I would assume that the 17.5 cm wall has a load-bearing function, so it probably wouldn't work with a sliding door running inside the wall. That would leave almost no wall thickness on the right and left... In timber frame construction, the walls are doubled up; I don't know how it is with [stone], but your architect probably does. Good luck!

Also with stone, there is a (simple) wooden stud wall, simply clad, placed in front from one side. The guide rail is then located in between. I don't know the thickness measurements.

We are also planning an internal sliding door. Therefore, the wall will have a thickness of 24 cm. Our planner has designed it this way and the structural analysis has already been calculated accordingly, so it should be fine.

In one of the earlier drafts, we had not yet planned a sliding door; the wall in question was specified as 17.5 cm thick. Because of the sliding door, it was changed to 24 cm. However, I do not know if this is strictly necessary.

How will that be executed? Will a stone wall be built first, plastered, and then another row of stones added? I can’t imagine that right now. Best regards Sabine

A drywall partition will be installed in front of the rail
