Wall in the front yard

Hello dear community, we are currently renting (purchase in about 3-4 years) an older house. We would first like to spruce up the outdoor areas, and in the front garden there is the wall seen in the photo running through the front garden. The owner of the house cannot tell us what its purpose is. Maybe one of you knows what kind of wall this is and if it can be removed? Thank you very much in advance Regards Annilo

Ah okay, yes garden bed edge *embarrassed* So probably a laid garden bed? Was it laid like that before? Can it be removed?

If this is a bed edging, it can definitely go. Are there old drawings? I would dig a little there - I really can't imagine that it has a use/purpose for the cellar, the foundation, or anything else relevant. Is there a cellar window there? Could it be that there was a trench for a larger cellar window? I personally would make use of the "wall," possibly a gravel bed by the house with this separation from the rest of the front yard?

A window is not visible. The "wall" ;-) also continues further to the garage driveway. A gravel bed is planned, but we would prefer not to have that gray concrete running through the bed.

Could there have been a window or a hatch in the basement? Maybe bricked up now? What kind of room is hidden behind it? Perhaps the coal supply for the old heating was stored there... I am assuming a concrete pit, hence the suggestion to dig.
