We are planning a walk-in shower: 1.5m wide x 1m deep.

Since the architect has planned the toilet in such a way that access there would be rather awkward, my question is:
1) Where and how big would you make the access to the shower?
2) Is an opening sufficient then? Or would you have to extend the wall into the shower as shown in the drawing? Or should a glass door be installed?
3) Or do you think the side towards the toilet should be left open and accessed from there? I find that a bit too tight and unattractive myself.

Thank you for your ideas and tips

I would check if there is a door about 70 to 75 cm wide that should open inward, that is into the shower, so that there is no dripping in front of the shower. It should then be hinged on the wall towards the WC.

One could also make the wall towards the WC 30 to 40 cm less deep and then add a fixed glass element around the corner. That would also give more light in the shower.

I would install a glass door at the spot that is open in the floor plan, otherwise you quickly stand in the cold after showering. The other walls made of fixed glass.

The architect did not plan the WC awkwardly. As you can see, you have few options with this room layout.

In your place, I would download a bathroom planner from the web (for example from Villeroy & Boch) and optimize the bathroom with exact measurements. As a quick suggestion, you could move the door to gain other wall spaces. Maybe the window can still be shifted? It is always sensible to have the shower wall at 1.50 m, then you have little splash even without a door. Ideally, it would be even longer. If you plan the shower as currently drawn, with a 60 cm passage you get a partition length of 80 or 90 cm – then you might as well skip these 50 cm and plan a regular 100 x 100 shower between two walls with a shower door. (A passage of 70 cm should be the minimum, however.) When asking here in the forum, it is always beneficial to mention how many people use the bathroom, to provide measurements, what can be flexible, where and why the drain is planned, etc.

Then you might get added value in the answer, as the reply might come with a sketch right away.

We have a) just been able to test a very similar shower and b) planned a very similar shower again in our kids' bathroom.

We will probably solve it as follows:

- Walls like in your second drawing (wall to the toilet and short wall stub near the showerhead)
- Walls 1.8m high, makes it appear airier and more open
- Shower fitting on the upper wall of the plan, showerhead like yours
- Glass pivot door, probably hinged on the wall to the toilet (opens inward to turn on the water so it gets warm, opens outward to enter)

We are still considering the hinge and width (is 90cm too much?) of the door

How much distance do you have between the showerhead and the toilet? We had that plan too, but worried that the entire toilet would get wet. Especially with children…
