Hello everyone and happy new year,

I am looking for a video door entry system that communicates with each other via WiFi.

A brief explanation: In 2019, we renovated an old building. At that time, we already wanted to install a video system and even had one at home, but after a short time my wife didn’t like it anymore and it was returned. Unfortunately, the topic then took a backseat and was forgotten. Currently, we have a wireless doorbell solution installed, which after several coronary artery catheterizations on my wife’s part, should finally be replaced by a proper solution. We have no KNX installed in the house, everything is old conventional wiring. Network cables have been laid on every floor in the house and there is comprehensive, strong WiFi available.

We want a system that can be expanded. The image from the entrance area should be transmitted to a display as well as to the mobile phone, and the door should be able to be opened via the display and the mobile phone (the door is equipped with a door opener and can be controlled via 2-wire). An intercom function should also be present. It would also be nice if the system could be used almost as an intercom system. The communication of the individual modules should be realized via WiFi, as there is no RJ45 connector near the intended positions of the displays. It would also be nice if the camera data can be saved on a NAS without having to use a provider’s cloud.

I hope I have provided enough information so that it is clear how I imagine this!

I have already used the search here and read through various threads, but have not found the right one.

I look forward to your suggestions!

Regards

Maybe wait for Apple? Something with Homekit is supposed to come this year. Otherwise something like Ring. There is also one with a battery. Without cloud, it won't work via Wifi. And cheap definitely not.

I cannot think of a provider off the top of my head that fulfills your wishlist 100%. Metzler offers solutions with 2-wire technology for door units and integration into the AVM world. Here you might be able to integrate your wishes for WLAN and intercom through the combination with the fritzbox.

Do you have at least more than power where the outdoor unit is supposed to be installed? Meaning a data line or at least 2-core wiring?

If yes, in my opinion an Akuvox system would be feasible, consisting of one of the door stations that meet your requirements or fit your budget, plus any number of indoor units (which also come in WiFi versions).

With that you could basically cover everything – intercom system, intercom function between screens, splitting of camera images also via third-party NAS devices, etc. – all without cloud connection.

Where it will be more difficult is with mobile phones – you still need a cloud account unless you accept that it only works at home (meaning in the same network). On the other hand, you can also equip the phones with SIP clients and connect them cloud-free.

Theoretically, it would also work completely without a data line/2-core wiring to the outdoor unit, since some Akuvox door stations can also be connected via LTE, but that would be like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Hello everyone,

first of all, thank you for your responses.

@rick: Unfortunately, I don't have any devices from Apple.

: I'll have a look at Metzler to see what kind of devices they have. Maybe there's something suitable.

: Yes, there are 4 wires, but I don't know exactly where they end. They are leftover from the old doorbell. You could repurpose them since those things are not in use. Possibly extend them, etc. I can do without the picture on the phone when I'm on the go (if I'm not at home, then not at home). I will also check out what Akuvox has!

Thanks again to everyone, maybe someone will come up with something else.

Regards
