Hello everyone,

we are currently building our house with a hip roof and it is now becoming clear that there might be problems with the photovoltaic system. We will have two vents for the toilets and the roof will additionally get 2 vents for the roof per side. However, the photovoltaic system takes up a lot of space and now I am looking for a solution and hope for your help.

Vent pipe tiles and ventilation tiles will be used. Under the photovoltaic system, we have 10cm of space, but if I am correctly informed, the tiles are higher...

My questions:
1) Can the tiles be shortened? The installer said that if it is a plastic pipe, you can simply cut it off and the photovoltaic system will be installed over it. That way, no rain gets in.
2) Could the ventilation (toilet & roof) be redirected within the roof so that it comes out where we have some space (at the very top)?
3) Are there possibly special flat tiles that we could use?
4) How would you solve the problem?

so long...

I write in advance that I lack experience with gable roofs.

However, my personal experience is that vents, no matter how flat or sophisticated, have no place under photovoltaic panels. There are temperature differences, humidity, condensation. You don't want to deal with that.

Bending vents should not be too much of a challenge if you have enough freedom for pipe routing under the roof. Especially since the current planning seems to handle vents a bit 'inflationarily'.

solar tiles... The installer should actually have a solution for "rerouting". What does he say?

Here is a graphic showing how it should look on the roof. The lower side is a little over 9m wide and about 4.4m high. The modules are 2 x 1m. In the worst case, 4 vents still have to be accommodated there.

I have understood that ideally nothing should be placed underneath the photovoltaic panels. However, the ventilation could be positioned under the roof in the free spaces. So far, the drainage ventilation goes straight up. A small bend would have to be made here. The roof ventilation can be freely positioned? If so, then we should not have any problems. I just don’t know whether the roof ventilation can be freely positioned.

The photovoltaic installer suggested shortening the ventilation and installing the photovoltaic panels above it. This does not seem like a good idea, so I will leave the installer to his field of expertise. I cannot ask a roofer yet, which is why I am turning to you.

I had a look at solar roof tiles and at least my brief research did not quite convince me. In DE there is no established solution that also achieves 9kWp-10kWp.

Ventilation under photovoltaic panels is not a problem and can simply be cut off.

Hmm, so how now? OK, assuming I saw off the ventilation made of clay. Then there would be no problems with rain. Sure, above the pipe is the [Photovoltaik], which keeps it off, but if it rains really heavily and the rain flows down the tiles from above, couldn't something get into the ventilation? That could possibly be bad if the insulation in the roof etc. gets wet.
