If I want to ventilate a 25 sqm cellar room with a high ventilation demand (due to high humidity) using 2 push-pull fans that are to be installed in the (small) cellar window, which variant is better:

(1) Two devices side by side, blowing/sucking in opposite directions?
One always blows, one sucks. Switch every 70 seconds.

Plus
- The same amount of air is always supplied as is extracted.

Minus
- There is a risk of a short circuit, i.e. the supplied air is immediately sucked out again, other parts of the room are ventilated/dehumidified much worse. Or is it enough that the two fans are directed in different directions?

(2) Two devices side by side, blowing/sucking in phase?
Both blow for 70 seconds, then both suck for 70 seconds.

Plus
- The excess air in the room goes out the door to the rest of the house. When sucking, the air loss is compensated by air flowing in from the house. Overall, an airflow should occur between the window and the room door, so that a large area of the room is covered.

Minus
- A negative or positive pressure builds up in the room because sucking and blowing are not simultaneous.

A detail worth mentioning: Outside, both fans discharge into a light well. Here the risk of a short circuit (air blown out is immediately blown back in) is probably even greater.

The Aereco guy said that 2) would be no problem, 1) wouldn’t work at all, you always have to work with a pair of fans so that sucking and blowing happen simultaneously.

A third solution would be a pair of fans, one of which is in the problem room, the other in an adjacent cellar room.

Both solutions are not sensible. In 1, the air is probably just circulated in a circle. In 2, one might possibly draw moist warm air from the living area into the basement, thereby causing mold. Why is this room so damp? Can the fans be distributed in the room?

Here is an essential detail: It is an almost KfW-55 house. The basement is warm. The whole house is rather dry; we use humidifiers in winter to raise the humidity from 30% to 55%.

2 Push-pull devices at different locations would mean that you can no longer use the window and the light well but have to drill through the wall and guide the air upward outside in the soil. Or you have to lead the air ducts through the window, but both inside and outside have to be spaced sufficiently far apart.

If 2) is possible, that would be my preferred solution. I was told that the system does not work if the same amount is not simultaneously sucked in and blown out. But the overpressure or underpressure is not that large if it is only sucked in or blown out for 70 seconds.

Ah, then further questions, how exactly are the temperatures and humidity in the respective rooms?

Is this the pool room? Roughly, I would estimate about 1 cubic meter per minute for such fans when running at full load. Let's say your basement room has 65 cubic meters, then it's already quite decent if you pump 2 cubic meters in there. You should separate them a bit. Ours in the all-purpose room are on the same side but about 4 meters apart.

Thank you for the answer! The room has 48 m^3 of air. What do you say about solution 2)?
