Velux flat roof windows rain noise damping experiences

Hello everyone,

I was thinking about installing flat roof windows since our living area is on the upper floor. Has anyone had experience with, for example, the Velux flat roof windows? These are supposed to have rain noise insulation; can you really notice that, or is it more marketing?

How about the tightness?

Even with the normal Velux roof windows, you only hear the rain when it is really pouring down like buckets.

What a world... o_O I would find this rather value-reducing, not hearing the rain. I could imagine 100 other noises that should be dampened instead. My focus would be on sun protection.

I also have to wonder: you can hear rain even without double casement windows. Yes, with double casement windows you still hear it through the windows. I find that quite soothing and nice. But it doesn't rain all the time.

Thank you for the answers! Yes, we basically don’t find the sound of rain any problem either, our architect had mentioned it as a negative criterion. However, I suspect that we will plan for one thing or another.

Under our bedroom window, there is a really huge metal roof above the neighbor's storage area. Ok, twice a year fighting cats meet there, but I would hear them from somewhere else as well. However, rain has never even been a topic, and we always sleep with the window open. As already mentioned, sun protection is really important; we have just experienced in the area how the heat changes inside before and after shading a rather small roof window. I would definitely invest in that.
