Hello dear forum,

I would like to hear your opinion on the following matter:

The roof of a single-family house is to be renewed around 2023.
There has been a photovoltaic system on the roof since 2003 (in 2023 it will no longer be eligible for the feed-in tariff).
The house is rented out.

Question: The roof needs to be redone, there is no way around it.
Would you rather have new modules installed on the new roof or continue to use the old ones, for example, for another 10 years?
The idea is that the tenants can use the electricity for their own consumption.

Thank you very much in advance for your input!

New = buy new = high investment There was the amendment of the Renewable Energy Act in recent days, which also allows for economic continued operation (at least that’s what you read). I would wait and see exactly what the regulations will be. Then you sell the electricity as an entrepreneur to the tenants. As always, that determines how the contract has to be structured. Are the modules worn out or do they still have a proper performance?

hi, due you will then get about 50 cents feed-in tariff. The remuneration depends on the modules. Calculate how many kWh you produce in three years at xx cents. Alternatively, a new system (probably twice as efficient? with the same area) at about 8 cents feed-in tariff. Each minus self-consumption. Then you can estimate whether an additional dismantling and reinstallation of modules pays off (to be paid from the difference). Roughly, I would guess: yes, it only makes sense to put the old modules back on...

The system will only come in 2023! No own consumption. Tenant electricity model. There should also be increased surcharges with the Renewable Energy Act amendment.

Yep, you are right, I read too quickly. That leaves only reinstalling the old modules. By self-consumption I actually meant more generally "not feeding in." Well, we also initially wanted a tenant electricity model. For us, it will probably now be "warm rent with electricity quota." I think that way you don't become an electricity seller. Details about that could possibly be clarified in a "special forum."
