So, I also looked into asbestos. As far as I know, asbestos fibers are 100 times thinner than a hair... just because something looks fibrous doesn't mean it has to be asbestos. Think of our OSB or pressboards, they don't contain asbestos either. I can imagine that old panels with asbestos inside, when broken, are crumbly to dusty. However, I myself would very reluctantly break an asbestos panel, so I can't give you that tip. Just take such a panel to an older craftsman who experienced those years. If he has concerns, plan appropriate safety precautions during the renovation and dispose of it accordingly.
