Hello everyone
I will be moving out of my apartment in 3 months. I had a 6-piece picture on my living room wall. Taken down, holes neatly filled. Since the wall has rather a grayish tone and there were quite a few holes which I filled with the white filler, I thought I’d do something good and get the right paint so that it doesn’t look so bad anymore (the paint is 4 years old). So I got the color code from the landlord and had the paint mixed (dispersion paint). The wall is long and the light source comes from the front, so actually in a hallway. I also had light pencil marks on the wall. I then carried out the following steps:
1. Erased the pencil marks with a white eraser and dabbed the round white spots of the holes with the paint.
--> Because of the light source in front, you could clearly see around the holes where I had erased, as it now shone.
2. I thought okay, then just paint over where it shines with the small roller (Picture 1)
--> From the front, it looked good, color matches (Picture 2). Regarding the light source, also looks good, against the light source awful (Picture 3).
----> Problem: Did not roll out smoothly to get a clean color transition AND at the edge area there were "peaks" which create shadows.
3. Thinned the paint against the peaks, allowed 10%, thinned with 5%. Also rolled out carefully until there was no more paint on the roller.
--> It’s getting worse :-( (Picture 4).
What should I do? The wall is huge, I don’t want to repaint it, and I also strongly doubt that I could manage it since it’s so extremely tricky.
I currently see only the following possibilities which might still have an effect:
- Different roller
- Thin the paint even more
I would be really, really very grateful for any tip.
Kind regards
Black Rider
