Hello,

we are getting a glued vinyl floor in our new building. (except bathroom)
Now the floor layers were here and left immediately because the
humidity was supposedly at 96%!!!???
A week before, the painter had finished his work (Thursday) and on Saturday
we taped the windows from the outside for the plaster. The following Thursday, the floor layers
were then here. The Sunday before, we heated for about 8 hours again because the field representative
of the floor layers' company said so. That probably wasn’t so great.
The screed was already very dry. Value 0.9 (I don’t know the unit)

Is it possible that after painting there is such a high humidity? There was no water condensation visible on the windows. Unfortunately, we only ventilated a little, through small openings in the windows.
After they left on Thursday, I cut out big holes and ventilated twice daily. The following Monday I then measured 40%. Is that possible?
I am at a loss.

Regards

96% humidity is like a dripstone cave and would mean that there is a lot of water in the air at the current high temperatures. Your description of when what happened is somewhat unclear, but it doesn't matter. If the tiler says that with the proper official measurement the residual moisture is below 1%, vinyl can also be installed. Why the humidity was so high that day (96%, yeah sure) is not clear and ideally should not happen again. If the rooms now feel dry and not clammy to the touch, there is actually nothing standing in the way of installation.

Result: either they really measured a high residual moisture, which somehow can be the case. Or they had 2 construction sites but only 1 crew and had to cancel one site somehow. Just let the installers do it. And next time just take a moisture meter or have them show their value. Because they have to take responsibility for the installation. If the floor is too wet, the whole thing will warp very badly and everything will be ruined.

As far as I know, vinyl cannot be installed at high humidity because it is already maximally expanded and gaps form when the air is dry. At least, that was stated on the packaging I once installed. 65% was the limit.

Thanks first of all for your answers. That the humidity has to be right makes sense to me. I definitely want it to be correct and not cause any annoying aftereffects. But the 96% just seemed a bit high to me. Of course, after the painter there is moisture in the house and it smells a bit. You then think that the humidity is somewhat higher. The second construction site could of course also be the reason. But that won’t be provable. They are supposedly coming back tomorrow. Humidity at 40%.

if it's right after the painter was there, a high humidity level is possible because you are not allowed to ventilate directly after putting up the wallpaper. if you now have 40%, everything is fine and the floor will be installed. the later the flooring is installed, the less it has to suffer during construction (e.g., always after the wallpaper and paint).
