Hello,

today I would like to ask you again for what you do best: bringing naive notions of a layperson down to earth.

I hope the attached calculation is somewhat self-explanatory. It might be worth mentioning that in the estimates (h=hours, d=days, w=weeks) I have already taken into account the number of helpers. So these are not man-hours/days/weeks.

Many of you surely have more practical experience: Would you consider the numbers approximately realistic? I do most of it (the items with 1.5 persons) more or less alone, with my wife as an assistant. There may be more active helpers, but I wouldn’t count on that for now. As far as the selected trades are concerned, I don’t have two left hands, but I’m not exactly the fastest. At least until I have some routine, then I can get quite fast.

Best regards

Hello, the only "self-explanatory" thing about the "calculation" is that it is the milkmaid's calculation of a clueless person. Sorry, I'm sorry but you can't be "brought down to earth" with flowery words.

I have no idea about the required efforts, but based on the mentioned works, I think it is a new building?! What construction period do you have in mind? With a normal 6 months or 26 weeks, contribute 16.6 weeks of own work in total? How do you want to manage that?

Since it might not be entirely self-explanatory: I am calculating 22 hours per week. 10 on Saturdays, 3 days with 4 hours each during the week. Not taken into account is that I will use some weeks of vacation and overtime. I would see those as a buffer since things often turn out differently than planned. So it should be a conservative estimate. The house has approximately 140 sqm of living space. For electrical work, there is a total of 130 years of experience available for consultation and planning, thanks to several relatives in this field. However, they will hardly be able to help with the actual execution. I am currently trying to determine the construction time based on the estimate. A rough idea would be a maximum of 6 months up to and including "fine electrical work" (5 1/2 weeks of self-performance). 8 months until moving in (a total of 14 weeks of self-performance). For the later self-performance, outside companies are no longer involved, so it might take a bit longer. Interior doors, the last LAN connections, lamps, and covers I would do after moving in. We do not have children yet.

If you manage to do 300 hours in a year alongside your job, then you have my respect.

There are only two problems:

1) In my eyes, significantly too little time planned.
2) You won’t stick to the planned time.

Intense workload over a fairly long period of time. It is not just about pure working hours in the house. Think of the hours for shopping, transport, loading.
