Hello everyone,

we were at the sample selection for our house this week and are still facing the question of which type of door to choose for our balcony door (3m opening width): Currently, a tilt-and-slide door from Kneer is included, the lift-and-slide door would cost us an additional €2630 including foil coating.

However, the opinions on this topic seem to differ because many say the lift-and-slide door requires more effort to open. Unfortunately, I cannot make a direct comparison at the moment. What do the experienced home builders think about this topic?

Best regards,

Uwe

So far, a tilt-and-turn door is planned for the surcharge, right?

Hi Uwe,

we were advised against a lift-and-slide door. Also due to the amount of force required. Children usually cannot open it on their own because of this.

Unfortunately, I don't know right now, only that the windows are from Kneer, but I don't think they make sliding doors. Our consultant is currently on vacation and won't be back until June 8th, then I can ask him. Yes, the effort was also mentioned repeatedly. Besides, I already thought that we wouldn't be able to tilt the door for ventilation, which is actually quite practical. The main advantage would be the lower threshold, but the question is whether that is worth 2,500€.

We have a 2.50m lift-and-slide door and are satisfied. Even our youngest (3) can open it easily. For tilting, we still have a regular terrace door. We were advised against a tilt-and-slide because they are apparently more prone to issues.
