Threshold from Ikea Ivar cabinet?

Hello, I have a question. Unfortunately, I am not very handy and also not very well equipped technically. We would like to install knee wall cabinets in our finished attic. Now I wonder if it is not easier and also cheaper to buy Ivar cabinets with the dimensions 80x50x83 and cut them down.


Since our attic has a very steep angle, I would have to shorten the outer panels of the Ivar cabinet from 80 to 34 centimeters on the back side to fit them under the roof slope, something like this:



Has anyone possibly had experience with whether the stability of the cabinets suffers significantly or if an alternative from the hardware store is significantly cheaper?

so back then with the Faktum I always placed a deep base cabinet at the back and a tall wall cabinet in front. For the wall cabinet, I left out the Pax back panel and connected both cabinets inside with a perforated sheet on each side. To prevent them from standing directly on the floor, I used a 1 cm thick strip. This way, I could set up narrower or wider elements depending on the need. The advantages were that I made better use of the slope’s depth, I had an equally high row of holes in both cabinets, which allowed me to mount the shelves at one height or choose different heights. For the front, I used the matching kitchen front. I think this also works with Metod. I wouldn’t use solid wood in the attic because there can be large temperature fluctuations. I once had a door made of spruce laminated wood that warped in the summer.

Hello, thank you very much for the quick and helpful response. I thought I was buying an Ivar cabinet precisely because it is made of solid wood. The Metod base cabinets are said to be made of chipboard and melamine foil. Can you make a clean cut with a jigsaw on these so that the foil does not tear?

HI neuneuneu, if you use a new very fine saw blade and cover the cut beforehand with painter's tape so that you cut on the painter's tape, a clean cut could result. However, there is no guarantee with the jigsaw. But it is not different with solid wood. One side is clean because the jigsaw cuts upwards, the underside would be clean. So cut in a way that the visible side is on the bottom or cut with the saw from below. How does the cabinet need to be changed? In width, height, or depth? I always go to the hardware store I trust, they even cut it for me free of charge and neatly. Others charge 1€ per cut. If it should be an angle, then only the jigsaw helps. Regards, Mr. Rossi
