hi, I installed laminate flooring myself in my living room, but now the floor in front of the balcony door is bulging up in a strange way, what did I do wrong?

Hello, could it be that you didn’t leave a gap? If you lay the laminate right up to the wall, it can’t expand and will eventually warp in the only direction left to it, upwards. You can remove the last row again and leave a gap; 3-4 cm should be enough.

The mistake you made is unfortunately made by many. There should always be a gap, and that on every side towards the wall. Because even though the laminate is partly made of plastic, it still expands and contracts when it is warmer or colder.

At our hardware store, you can get spacers that you lay along the wall and by which you can see how close you can go. This prevents the laminate from warping over time and having to be removed again.

We are also laying laminate ourselves next week. Thank you very much for the instruction tips. We will follow them. Also with the spacer at the edge, we will keep that in mind.

Now nothing can go wrong.

That has happened to me before as well. Right in front of the patio door, the laminate had warped. Not immediately, but very slowly. At first, I couldn’t make sense of it either.

Until someone explained it to me, and I had also laid the laminate all the way up to the wall. I then took it up again and left a gap at the wall. Now it lies perfectly.
