My wife has many roses at the top and such, in the middle ground-covering greenery that overgrows the pots, at the bottom we filled it with screed concrete and covered it with pebbles. You will have to have it dug up again anyway after a few snow and rainfalls. But you should protect the house wall. We had fleece stretched over the ground for months. Nevertheless, the house wall suffered - more than I thought.
