hi

for some time now, the water in our bathtub hasn't been draining properly. it takes ages until the tub is finally empty. i have also tried one of those powdery drain cleaners, but it didn't really help either. maybe someone can give me some advice.

Forget the drain cleaner!

It’s best if you forget about the drain cleaner, it’s pure poison for the environment. There are spirals at the hardware store that you can use to clean the drain really well. It is said that cola works too, but I haven’t tried that myself, so I can’t guarantee that it works. Usually, it’s hair that clogs the drain, and if you want to avoid that, there are strainers that you place over the drain and the strainer catches the hair beforehand.

Hi, I wouldn't use the drain cleaner anymore, you yourself say it doesn't help and it's also full of poison for the environment. You can buy a pressure gun, which is available at the hardware store and from the plumber. It gets filled with air and then fired, the pressure that is generated clears the drain again.

if the water no longer drains properly, it can also be because the pipe is scaled on the inside. If the pipe is already older, this can happen sometimes. If it cannot be cleared mechanically, I would have a plumber come and take a look at it.

Hi, a friend told me her recipe against clogged drains. She buys a cheap cola and pours it down the drain, that is supposed to help. Whether it is the substances in the cola or the carbonation she couldn't tell me. But judging by the taste of that stuff, there is definitely something in it that simply dissolves the clog.

If necessary, you simply unscrew the inlet strainer and remove the deposited parts there.... usually hairs, which often helps a lot and should be done anyway at certain intervals.

Wastewater pipes made of plastic cannot calcify...! So that is not the case, unless you still have metal pipes from the 1950s? But even then, it wouldn't be the lime scale but simply the deposits from the remnants of the bathers.
