In the course of building our house, among other things, we also had a foundation laid on which a terrace partition wall is to be placed later.

Now we have an alternative in mind for the WPC wall: Natursteinauer. In the hardware store, we found corresponding stones, but received the advice that we could only place these stones (or stones in general) on the foundation if the foundation had previously been excavated at least 80 cm, properly compacted, and provided with drainage; otherwise, the wall would not hold.

Our neighboring house, however, also received the same foundation from the landscaping gardener. On this, however, the landscaping gardener built a wall (not natural stone, but stones that were reinforced with braces inside and concreted). Is there a difference here?

What does your foundation construction look like? We are currently also dealing with a sandstone wall at the property border. For a wall height of up to 60cm, a foundation 80cm deep made of gravel, concrete, and reinforcing steel mats is recommended. How high will your wall be? After a man died in the recent storm trying to save his collapsing wall, I would definitely adhere to the foundation recommendations.

If only I knew

Compacted soil, foundation poured, was done by the garden landscaping company. However, I strongly assume that it is not 80 cm deep! The strange thing is that this type of foundation was poured for many houses in the local new development. Many also take the wall directly from the garden landscaping company, which honestly was too expensive for us. The stones used are reinforced with steel rods and additionally concreted on the inside.

Our wall is to be 3m wide, starting with a height of 1.6m, then 1.4m, then 1.2m

Why don't you ask? The garden landscaper will be able to give you information on that.

I also consider this the best solution.

From a distance, such things are hard to assess anyway.

We had built a terrace partition wall on a foundation (3 meters long, 40 cm wide, 1 meter deep). Wrong tense -> we had built it. Storm Niklas questioned the stability and kindly sent that partition wall onto our garden furniture. The foundation held up well - the natural stones too - unfortunately not on the foundation, but only within themselves. To come back: Better let a professional do it, if such a wall falls it causes a lot of damage,...
