Hello everyone,

we are currently planning our terrace and this is not so easy due to a certain misplanning of the retaining walls.

Problem: We have to plan the level of the terrace 30 cm higher (which would then be 15 cm below the floor edge), because this height is missing at the built retaining wall.

Now I have the following options:

A second retaining wall exactly 30 cm behind the first one (which just looks stupid in my opinion), or a 15 cm one (built with the edge stones of the terrace) and then a second 15 cm level after about 4 meters (at the 2nd exit), which would then realize the terrace in 2 levels.

Now my question is whether it is even possible to plan a 15 cm level with edge stones or whether the plan with two levels is already nonsensical.

I hope I have described it clearly.

Thanks in advance and best regards

Zenjamino

How much space do you have? Two levels only make sense if each level is also large enough on its own or otherwise serves a purpose. Do you have any pathways along the retaining wall? Then you could, for example, set it 30cm lower than the terrace. It’s best if you post a plan and photos so we can properly visualize it.

So I would make one level of the terrace up to the wall between the two doors, which corresponds to an area of about 20 sqm, then a step with 15 cm and then another approx. 15 sqm with a transition to a paved path towards the garden. The retaining wall to the house is 4 m long and then approx. 8 m towards the garden. Next to the elevation there is no space for a path, but maybe for a few flower pots. Attached is a picture from the building application (terrace drawn too small there). The question is whether it is even possible to catch 20 sqm stone terrace with a 15 cm curb. Regards Zenjamino
