Dear house building forum,

we have found our property and will move into our new house next year. The purchase of the property was a swap purchase, so the sellers of the house are the buyers of our current apartment. So far so good. Now we are planning and thinking about how a change can best take place, as we still have some renovation measures to carry out in the new house, such as sanding the parquet in the living-dining area and new floors in the bedrooms (currently there is carpet, I have a house dust allergy) and painting.

Do you have any ideas on how to achieve a smooth transition? Does one party necessarily have to stay in a holiday apartment?

Thank you for your ideas and suggestions.

Since, according to the physics known to us, two things cannot be in the same place at the same time, I see no alternative to a short-term holiday apartment / warehouse or similar.

Friends of ours carried this out in a general staff manner at the time:

- Emptied the apartment, moved furniture and other items into a warehouse
- Renovated the apartment together (both families)
- Moved into the apartment
- Renovated the house
- Moved into the house

At the beginning, the house was only "half" occupied for a while, until everything was finished. In the end, the costs for the holiday apartment and the warehouse were for a total of 2 weeks.

If the house has two bathrooms, I would, in your place, already move into the house while the other party still lives there. Possibly one could also bring in a motorhome. We know too little about the family structures for more details.
