There will still be superficial rust. Don't scare him. V2A does not completely corrode at the house. For that to happen, it would have to be constantly exposed to seawater, which it probably is not in NRW. Of course, they quickly slapped it in there, but the material is certainly not pig iron, not galvanized steel, but raw VA. I cannot say if the 3mm will be sufficient in the long term. Classically, a so-called "Grenadierschicht" would have been built there. That was probably too much work for the BU. Karsten

Would it be an option if the sheets were professionally cleaned and then painted? That would surely avoid the problem of flash rust spoiling the appearance...

Best regards.

Simply because they corrode. Creating a weld also includes post-treatment to prevent corrosion, and according to the state of the art, for TIG welding of V2A or more precisely 1.4301, this means polishing or pickling. Even for aesthetic reasons alone, the part should have been completely polished/brushed before installation, I think.

It will never completely rust through, I agree with Karsten on that. You can paint it, but the quality depends entirely on the primer; maybe your developer will agree to that. He can certainly "push" it onto the supplier of the profiles.

Hello Knallkörper,

unfortunately, we are not experts at all. Therefore, a quick question at this point: Is it possible to rework or improve a primer?

Best regards.

There is nothing on it yet. Before painting, it must be primed (and of course cleaned and degreased first....), and in my opinion, the primer is especially important for V2A. However, I am not an expert when it comes to painting.

Hello Knallkörper,

thank you first of all again for the quick response. Good points that we can fall back on.

Best regards.
