Hello :-)

I am the owner of an owner-occupied old building (built in 1900) in an old miner's settlement. The houses are so close together that the neighbor's washbasin drain pipes run directly through our shared wall. His bathroom is adjacent to our children's room. The sound of running water is very loud. Now I am looking for a way to dampen the noises without having to tear open the wall. Does anyone have a good idea?

Best regards, Marc

You will only be able to insulate the sound of the water pipes if you build a wall on the children's room side in front of the [Haustrennwand], and make it soundproof (plasterboard stud wall with a gap and no structural connection to the [Haustrennwand], with a soundproof mat in the space in between).

One solution, as already described, is to build a wall in front of it and fill it with soundproofing or insulation material. Of course, this is a very labor-intensive job. Sometimes it also helps to use soundproofing wallpaper here, for example, the soundproofing wallpapers from Sempatech would be a solution. You can still apply your own wallpaper or paint on it. However, this will not be able to dampen all noises, but it at least reduces the burden.

I have already worked with such a soundproof wallpaper once. However, it didn't help that much. Therefore, building a wall in front is probably the best solution. With the appropriate insulation, the noise level should be significantly reduced.

Hi Louis, of course you can't get rid of all noises with it, but a significant reduction should be possible. It always depends on how the wallpaper itself has been applied, because you can make quite a few mistakes there.

I agree, because the processing is crucial here. Such wallpaper can be helpful and is easier than building a wall.
