I keep hearing that builders place value on a straight staircase. My husband also wanted a straight staircase at first. Why actually? I don’t understand it at all. What is the advantage? I find the curved lines and arches much more beautiful. Can someone explain this to me?

I personally also prefer the straight staircase, as it offers a practical advantage in comparison; if you don't have a cellar entrance directly underneath, you can use the space under a straight staircase much better than under a curved staircase. Otherwise, I simply like the look of an open straight staircase more than others. But as is often the case, it is definitely a matter of personal taste.

The Ikea packages are easier to carry up a straight staircase. When you are old, the stairlift is cheaper. No, seriously. I also view the space consumption of the straight staircase critically compared to the turned version. Both can look nice visually.

From my point of view, it runs easier. You might consider that insignificant, but I am happy every time :-). You mean like Southern plantation house, industrialist villa ...? Sure, that has an effect. It’s just not for single-family homes.

:D Seriously? Can’t you make the turn when cornering or what?

Oh yes, why not? It depends a bit on the size. I’m happy every day about our arches in the staircase. :p

Hello kaho674,
I have already designed, built, sold, or installed several thousand staircases.

It does not matter whether the staircase has a straight or spiral flight when walking on it. What is important is that the dimensions of the rise and the tread are correctly calculated.

Everything else is a matter of taste.
