Hello everyone,
we are currently pondering the sensible room layout on the ground floor.
In a very first draft by the architect, a pantry in the kitchen and an additional storage room on the ground floor are planned. But now we have reconsidered whether we really need that and what we would want to store there.

For your information – we are planning a large kitchen with many cabinets, the upper cabinets also very high. We are planning a basement where we will have enough storage space.
At the moment, vacuum cleaner, cleaning supplies, beverage crates, toilet paper come to mind, which we should sensibly store on the ground floor.
Raclette, fondue, large soup pots, etc. we could also put in the basement.

Currently, I have supplies (food) stored in a 90 cm pull-out in the kitchen and get along very well with that (two adults, one toddler, one baby). If I plan another one, that should also be enough for the future. I shop almost every day anyway and don’t want to stockpile 20 packs of pasta, etc. (I have oils and spices in an upper cabinet).

What do you have in a storage room on the ground floor? What else do you have in a separate pantry??

My idea now is to cancel the storage room and instead accommodate a large, ceiling-high cleaning and storage cabinet in the relatively large study (approx. 15 m2, will not be used for working for hours every day).

I think this way I can simply save myself an additional room with a door and maybe extra hallway space.

I am curious about your experiences, comments, and ideas.

Our supplies are all stored in our kitchen (10.5 sqm with 7.6 linear meters of kitchen cabinets). We hardly have anything in the utility room. Just vacuum cleaner, cleaning supplies, hygiene paper.

I like the idea of having a cleaning cabinet in the office!

We also had a pantry in our old apartment and I don’t miss it!

It's similar for us. In the utility room, we also have a drinks shelf and a supply of wood for the fireplace.

Hello, we have a utility room where technical equipment is also stored. We have a second fridge for extras in a simple kitchenette, a few cans, preserving jars, and pasta. Also, all the tools, light bulbs, batteries, and so on, two large cabinets for kitchen stuff, cleaning supplies, drinks, shoe care items, empty jars for preserving, garden stuff (fertilizer and seeds). The microwave, the handheld vacuum, the vacuum cleaner, and now also potatoes are stored there. The kitchen is as warm as other rooms because it is open. Food spoils faster there. Many things can probably go downstairs with you. But I have to admit that I recently bought a light with a motion sensor at a hardware store because I visit the utility room quite often during the day, and the frequent and short switching on and off of the light annoys me (broom, vacuum cleaner, cleaning supplies, drinks).

Tools etc. -> Basement
Dryer, a washing machine, household chemical supplies, 1 freezer -> Utility room in the basement
Everything for the garden -> Garage and shed
Firewood -> Shed
Additional kitchen stuff and quickly usable supplies -> Built-in cupboard in the cloakroom on the ground floor
Cleaning supplies etc. -> In a cupboard on every floor
Christmas, Easter, and other stuff -> Attic
Preserves -> Basement.
And finally, finally order and you find what you need immediately.
How it will be at 70, we will see.

We have a pantry behind the kitchen and additionally enough space in the basement for everything that doesn’t fit there. Laundry is done in the utility room, wine is stored in the basement, and everything else (food, cleaning supplies, vacuum cleaner...) is kept in the pantry (about 4.5 sqm I think). That’s more than enough; a second room on the ground floor would be unnecessary for us because of the basement.
