Hello everyone,

now the move-in is approaching quickly and in big steps, and my carpenter finally installed my living room wall unit this week. Since I will be storing everything here in the future that is lying around in the house (otherwise I have no dressers or sideboards), I need storage boxes for the small items (and we all know there are plenty of those).

My cabinet compartments are 46 x 46 cm and of course I want to use the space to the maximum. The compartments are also 45 cm high, but since they have adjustable shelves, that matters less (besides, I would rather stack 2 boxes on top of each other).

I have already been to the hardware store, online, and to [Action], and my haul is one box with 39 x 39 x 26 with a lid for €5.49. That's okay, but maybe there is still more to be found (especially because this is one of those tapered boxes that narrows towards the bottom). And now you are asked, have you seen something like this somewhere? I know this is very difficult and the usual suspects (e.g. [Ikea]) have nothing. Apparently there are sizes that go UP TO 40 cm and then only start AGAIN OVER 50 cm.

I would be happy if you could help me with that. I would need about 10 - 15 pieces.

Regards Flo

How does someone come up with what I would almost call a "prank," having a wall unit custom-made for storage boxes without first checking what the standard sizes of such boxes are?

You're right. On the other hand, the width was based on the total width of the cabinet. And the width of the individual compartments also somehow determines the max. width of the door, if you know what I mean. It doesn't matter now, I have to look for it.

Might sound presumptuous, but would it still be within the budget to have the boxes custom-made as well, basically matching? Compared to the wall unit, that should be peanuts, right?

I would say the same. If it is a custom-made wall unit, do you really want to have plastic boxes (I assume) from Action and the like in it permanently? Wood or woven baskets usually look more high-quality and also last longer.

On Etsy, there is "Mijubox", they make rustic wooden boxes in the style of fruit or wine crates. They also offer custom-made boxes. Standard boxes in 50*40*30 are around 6-9€. They are even cheaper when bought in larger quantities.
