Hello dear forum,

we are currently planning the garden. Now the question arises whether we should have a step onto the terrace or go out fairly level.

We have a concrete slab that is about 15 cm lower than the floor inside.

If we were to make a step, we would place a prefabricated step in front of the terrace door and then lay the slabs in gravel on the concrete slab.

If we want to go out level, we would first have to put gravel on the concrete slab, then crushed stone, and then the slabs.

Intuitively, we always think that a step might be useful because of rain and snow. But everyone says that wouldn’t be a problem, no step is needed. If we have to add crushed stone, we have to lay the outer terrace slabs in concrete and can only lay the inner ones in gravel so that everything holds.

What do you think about this topic? What would you do and what should we definitely consider? We would be very grateful for your opinions and tips, as we unfortunately have no idea.

Best regards Ivonne

Always without a step. I find it really annoying. Don't forget a drainage channel with a tile covering. You could quite easily place wood on the concrete slab without a step. Then I would also skip a channel.

Many thanks for your answer.
We were thinking about concrete slabs. We have the Kann Fiori in mind. They wouldn’t be quite so expensive.
Then would we have to put a channel in front of the door? Or can you do that under the covering? Sorry for the silly questions. But we really have no idea.

Example (must then also be connected to the drainage):

That looks like a sliding door, so it's really completely flush there, right? We don't have a sliding door. So we basically have to step over the frame. Do you have to do that there as well?
