whereas the structural engineer is pure waste. we paid 450€ for the guy. he came by once, looked for 2 minutes, and drove back. quite a lot of money for nothing. as a layman, I also see that the house stands stable, I don't need one of your "specialists" for that.
if at least he could immediately be held liable for 1 million euros in damages without further costs and time in case of damage, the money might still be worth it to me. but to hell with it, that will more likely drive you into expert ruin than get even a single lousy euro out of these guys if the house collapses...

then he did something. but how is a structural engineer supposed to see anything without inspecting?! I could even see that the house (a city villa in the simplest construction) is structurally absolutely flawless anyway. ok, I also had 4 semesters of statics/mechanics. for that, I really think €450 is thrown away. everyone always says, it's a small price for safety. but that phrase comes with so many phrases that I could buy a new A4 for it. and in the end, no real value was provided except for a few pieces of paper that aren’t worth more than the paper they’re printed on. if it were different, no one would offer these services.

Then you have extraordinary abilities. Because for what you can see after four semesters, a structural engineer in approval usually needs half a decade to belong to the professional group and at least another half decade of professional experience to be allowed to become an approval engineer.

Thank you for your numerous responses. I have now asked around with various home builders, and they all built without structural calculations. For most of them, the construction company did static calculations, and that was sufficient for them. They all built a house of building class 1. However, I am still not really satisfied with the statements.
