Sand?
Defrosting only works with salt.

I’m not doing anything about it. If it’s slippery, we’re just more careful – and since the access path to the house is made of gravel anyway, severe ice is less likely in principle. Since we don’t have a sidewalk in front of the property and the municipality clears the streets, we don’t have to worry about anyone other than ourselves. There is no one who has to walk to the house, not even the postman. That is something we can take responsibility for. Heating cables with green electricity were too uneconomical for us. If possible, avoid using salt – it melts well, but too much of it is bad for the environment.

Sand is slip-resistant and does not dissolve immediately when it rains

Yep. Either you melt it off, for that there is salt. Or double grain schnapps would also work. Otherwise, you can only desensitize, and we have always just used sand for that. Public paths are also treated here with sand when salt is not necessary. It can also be easily swept away afterwards; with ash, I would have my doubts.
