Morning, probably a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway.

I currently still have some fine gravel left that is of no use to me right now or mostly just in the way.

The substructure for the terrace is usually built with 0/32 (probably also because of the infiltration of surface water).

Is it now nonsense to already spread the finer gravel around the house and in the intended area of the planned terrace to level out unevenness and holes so that it disappears?

Or am I creating a barrier layer that will cause me problems with surface water later on?

Well, it’s not a depletion layer, but it doesn’t run that well either.

I would avoid very fine gravel on the terrace because you carry it into the house with your shoes. You can mix it in if you have a very clayey soil and are planting something. It also works in winter as "Streusplit". If you don't have space for it, better give it away to someone who will pick it up than use it in a way that you will regret later.

On the fine gravel, about 20 cm of 0/32 (compacted) would then be added, then 20-25 cm of curbstones as edging for the terrace, inside which again 0/32 with 4-5 cm of fine gravel as a base layer for the terrace slabs, which are to be laid loose...

It was basically about whether the fine gravel (I think it's 8/16) under the 0/32 will cause problems later...

He doesn't cause any problems there.

Do you also use the 8/16 fine gravel as a bedding layer for the slabs?
