What is the storage room supposed to be used for?

In the old house, that was the garage, but unfortunately, no car fits in it today. That is why we thought we would use it as a storage room for bicycles, etc.

Ah, ok, outdoor.
Again the "wall" between dining and living. I would probably make wooden or metal slats from the living room floor to the ceiling, spaced apart and matching the house style.
The steps a bit wider. And then a padded furniture bench in front of it in the living room. The kids can climb around there. Initially, there would still need to be a fall protection on the stairs, which I would remove later.

If going upwards, then properly. Then living and dining are on the same level. Or max. 3 steps (preferably only one) down in the full width of the opening. Then also align the ceiling directly with that of the living room.
