Hello everyone,
A brief background: I am the owner of a fully renovated old building from 1920. The garage is a prefabricated garage, separated from the property on the other side of the street, see picture.
Since I own a plug-in hybrid and will be renovating the garage (electric gate operator, lighting), I will need electricity in the garage in the future.
Now the question arises: what is cheaper or more sensible? Or even possible at all.
House connection or solar system?
I have obtained an offer for an off-grid system – 15kWh storage capacity, 1kWp photovoltaic, 3kW inverter. Cost for the complete system: about €5000, it is a system from the following provider (but not the same model, as it was specially put together for me with a discount):actually there is a link here, but the terms and conditions forbid it!
The batteries used are:actually there is a link here, but the terms and conditions forbid it!
The battery pack in the car has 4kWh, but the seller advised me to get 15kWh storage capacity for charging the car, since battery capacity is lower in winter.
Solar system:
Advantages: free electricity, green driving.
Disadvantages: high initial cost (?), possibly too little electricity in winter (although I already use little electricity with the car in winter, the additional battery pack switches off below -5°C for safety reasons, and the combustion engine is primarily used for heating), aging and possibly weak batteries in winter.
House connection:
Advantages: independent, simple, no maintenance effort, cheaper?
Disadvantages: is it even possible?, excavation work, dirty electricity, ongoing costs, every kWh costs, must be connected "officially" by a professional company, administrative procedures, etc.
Now my question is whether anyone has experience with this topic, especially whether it is even possible to have an independent house connection for such a detached garage, and if so, what costs I should roughly expect.
From gut feeling, the photovoltaic system would probably pay off after a few years.
Many thanks!
Best regards
Markus
We mods also have nothing better to do than to correct the terms and conditions violations Best regards Yvonne
