Smoothing roughcast plaster - Which plaster and which edge profiles to use?

In our new old house, there is rough plaster on all the walls. We want to smooth it out if possible. Additionally, we want the baseboards to be flush with the wall.
- Which plaster would you recommend for smoothing?
- Can you recommend a steel profile to embed for the baseboards?
- How would you generally proceed when plastering the wall (work steps)?

In our new old house there is rough plaster on all the walls. We want to smooth this out if possible.

Is the "rough plaster" lime, lime-cement, or gypsum? Accordingly, apply a fine plaster overlay, smooth it, rub it down.

Since the old plaster is most likely painted, this is not so easy, because new plaster will only adhere unsatisfactorily there. If no film-forming scratchable paint was used, but for example silicate or lime paint, the surface can be silicified and bound with potassium water glass and then primed with quartz primer. Then the new plaster can be applied, but this only works with mineral plaster, that is lime or lime-cement.

If the house is empty anyway or being renovated, you can also evenly sand the plaster with a plaster milling machine and then apply fine plaster over it.
