Smarthome KNX Knowledge - Gira X1 with Alexa and Sonos - Please provide feedback

Hello everyone,

I only have very rudimentary KNX knowledge and am trying to gradually read up on it in connection with our house planning.

A quick question for the experts:

Do I understand correctly that Gira plans to make Alexa and Sonos directly compatible with the X1 through updates during this year? That is, Alexa via the detour over S1 and the Sonos system directly?

Both are already present in our current household, and if it could be integrated fairly smoothly, I wouldn’t mind at all.

Maybe an additional question on the side... if we plan KNX in our house and it is not supposed to be a high-end solution (lighting, blinds, sockets)... the X1 should be sufficient for me, right, or are there decisive reasons to accept the significantly higher price for the home server?

No, there are no special reasons for the home server... this is a Ferrari... but some just need it.

Alexa and Sonos + KNX has been working without Gira for a long time and also relatively uncomplicated. In other words, the X1 is not necessarily a must now.

Thanks for the reply. So I don't really understand the X1. From what I have "read" so far, I think it would be a good solution for us (completely independent of Alexa and Sonos).

Regarding Alexa and Sonos: To integrate Sonos or Alexa, don't you need some additional components (e.g., gateway) or tinkering (e.g., Edomi)?

So if I'm already leaning towards the X1, that would save me quite a bit, right?

You need a system that can make the devices communicate with each other. It can be the X1, but there are many more.

As an example: Hager IoT Gateway, Babtec App Module, Savant, etc.

In the KNX world, there is rarely just the ONE solution.
