Hello. We are currently renovating a mid-terrace house. Built in 1963. Everything needs to be completely renewed: electrical wiring, water pipes, heating pipes, etc. The house is currently basically in a shell condition. The ceilings in the interior rooms were originally insulated with reed. We have removed that. Now the ceilings are basically completely "naked".... only the concrete blocks are visible. We want to clad the ceilings with drywall and had considered insulating the cavity between the ceiling and drywall. But we were now told that interior ceilings are no longer insulated nowadays. That confuses us.... Heat rises and would then escape through the ceilings and attic (which is not insulated at all), wouldn't it? Furthermore, we have read that at least the last ceiling below the attic should be insulated. Long story short: a) Do the interiors' ceilings need to be insulated? If so, with which insulation material? b) Does the ceiling below the unheated and uninsulated attic need to be insulated? If so, with what insulation? c) Does only the attic itself need to be insulated? If so, which material? We would be very grateful for opinions!
