Should the carport area be gravelled first or should the foundations be laid first?

there seem to be some differing opinions regarding my question.
Would you gravel first and then dig in the foundations afterwards? Or set the foundations first and then gravel?

We set the foundations/partial walls today and will gravel soon.

To be honest, I forgot to tell the earthworks guy that they still have to go in and now he has covered everything with gravel ;-)
And now I'm wondering if that was very stupid or quite irrelevant...

I borrowed a 350 earth auger and drilled the foundations together with my girlfriend. Before that, gravel was spread and paved. Works great. Except if you catch like we did the house connection cable.

If next year then graveling and afterwards drilling like my predecessor
