Yes, I have also thought about thorny plants. However, there is a problem with that as well: the back property has a large gate through which a big truck must pass once a year to collect the compost heap. We pile up all the green waste and leaves, which accumulate to a considerable size over the year. But we have no use for the material, so it is removed. If you want to work with thorny growth, you would have to make a kind of "airlock" with a second fence in this area, which would then be planted from the inside again.
