Hello,

we are considering installing a surveillance camera at the front door or at the garage.

The surveillance camera should be connected to Wi-Fi but permanently connected to the power supply.

Which one can you recommend to us?
The cameras should have a spotlight or floodlight
And the camera should only record when there is movement and be able to distinguish between people, cars, and animals.

I have found the following cameras.

Ring, Eufy, Netatmo, reolink, Nest

Which would you recommend to us?
You are welcome to make further suggestions

I am currently using Logitech Circle Views and am very satisfied with them, but they don’t have a light and only have limited IR range. However, they do have HomeKit Secure Video, which unfortunately is still not available with the Netatmo with spotlight. If HKSV is not important, I can personally recommend both the Netatmo and the Eve outdoor camera from my own experience.

Now someone just needs to finally bring a HKSV camera with PoE, then I’ll be completely happy ;)

Take a look at Arlo. I have had good experiences with it. It was used during the construction phase.

Sorry if I say it like this, but I consider surveillance cameras connected to Wi-Fi to be toys... If the cameras are supposed to transmit high-resolution images, you will receive several MB with every gust of wind. A somewhat decent image is about 300-400 KB. Depending on the sensitivity of the camera and the number of cameras, this adds up to a few hundred MB or even a gigabyte per day. And it should be noted that the Wi-Fi of outdoor cameras has only a limited good connection depending on the distance to the router and the thickness of the exterior wall.

I have repeatedly tested cameras connected via Wi-Fi, it was always rubbish. Now all cameras are on LAN. Since they stream to a server, I still notice the loss of bandwidth, especially when I have video conferences myself.....

This is probably not about proper surveillance. If it is supposed to be part of a security concept, the cameras must be wired. Cameras with person detection, etc., do not trigger when a bush moves. Even pure motion detection has developed significantly. There is also fast and stable Wi-Fi. Transmission is not a problem with proper planning. There is no security because it can be easily disturbed. We have over 30 4K cameras that record continuously at high frame rates and analyze. Our network is still idle. So it is more likely your network ;)

So if the 30 cameras send the recordings to an external server via the internet and are still bored, then you have fiber optics, backbone connection, or what?
