Hello everyone,

when our basement walls were being formwork, an opening for the air outlet of the heat pump was forgotten. This opening was subsequently cut out of the reinforced concrete (WU). Now the cut edges of the steel reinforcement are visible. The exhaust grille of the heat pump is inserted in the recess. Can this be left as is without any concerns, or should the cut edges be sealed to protect them from corrosion? If yes, what would be best?

Thank you all!

Hello Stifty, basically nothing would happen to the steel. However, to avoid unsightly rust stains, it is advisable to protect it with rust protection paint (available at the hardware store). Dab it on with a small brush, twice in total. However, fundamentally it is a poor performance by your builder. He would be obliged to fix this defect at his own expense. The decision is yours.
