Yes and no. The tiler should properly work out the shower including drainage. The screeders usually do not do that. However, the tiler will not lay the screed for the entire bathroom. But there is no reason not to cover the bathroom with calcium sulfate screed and then seal it properly. The complete sealing is also more than recommended with "normal" screed.

Tilers nowadays also like to do this when they can process their system (from a well-known tile accessory supplier) using the thin screed method. At least that is my experience.

On the subject of costs: I have several offers for my house renovation. The CA screed was always the most expensive option. Eastern European screed layers shovel a bit and "just quickly" machine-pump the cement screed into the place. It's not complicated from a craftsmanship perspective ;-)

What kind of screed system? With 5cm on 20 sqm, no tiler actually feels like mixing and laying 1 cubic meter of screed by hand.

What did you ultimately decide on? CA (fluent) despite the higher offer?

Regarding the screed in the bathroom, various tilers offer the system of a manufacturer from Iserlohn (I believe advertising is not desired...), where very little screed is applied on the corresponding Di... mats. Sounds basically not bad, as less screed also means less inertia when heating up.

I have to finally go with 4.5cm CA flowing screed because otherwise I won't manage with my build-up height. But we're only talking about a few hundred euros for 120sqm (price difference about €2 compared to regular screed). Actually completely unnecessary to worry about this trade.
