Hello everyone,

I have little experience with screed myself, so a quick question to the experts.

I had screed laid in a 36sqm extension. Concrete screed was used and the surface is now not 100% smooth. Apparently, a smoothing layer would still need to be applied, which I would have to pay for separately.

In my opinion, if I order screed, it should be such that I can apply a floor covering of my choice on it.

Without the need for rework.

Who is right here?

Thanks

The post-processing of screed is common because the flatness according to DIN 18202 is not sufficient for many floors. If you have not ordered this, it will be at your expense. A post-processing will only be carried out by the screed installer if he does not meet the tolerances.

First of all: What exactly was ordered? "Normal" screed, flowing screed, trowelled screed... And what does "not smooth" mean for you? Are there bumps or is it simply not level? No, that is not the case. On the one hand it depends on what you order and on the other hand some tolerance is usual.

Hello questioner. As the previous speakers have already explained: A screed is a load-distributing layer, which is always installed on an insulating layer in residential construction. Screed surfaces are, even with proper execution, poorly suited for directly laying a covering on them. Regardless of whether it is floating on an underlay or glued. Exception: ceramic tiles (not large-format slabs) in the medium-bed method and after prior grinding, dust extraction, and priming. ------------- Unfortunately, you had a wrong idea there, because applying a leveling compound (or conversely: smoothing compound) is always the standard before laying a floor covering according to DIN 18365 and its comments! Thank you for the comments but the topic now continues.

A ready-made screed based on concrete was used.

This now breaks off at every corner.
Under the screed is underfloor heating that was stapled onto a very flexible material.

This now results in the entire corner breaking off when pressure is applied in the edge area.

It is currently difficult to say what the cause is.

We had a problem with the underfloor heating. That means the screed was not heated for over a week. But maybe it is also due to the material.

It has now been agreed that the screed will be completely removed and redone.
Now an anhydrite screed is to be used.

That would probably be a bit more expensive but then we would have no more problems.
He wants to pay for the work and I for the material.

1000€ for 36sqm

I would like to know your opinion.

Just because you use anhydrite, nothing about the problem changes.
