That is the gutter drip edge. Does your underlay run over the gutter edge and drain into the gutter, or does the underlay end under the gutter and drain via a drip edge? There are always two variants.

The drip edge does not run into the gutter. Only the gutter hanger flashing drains into the gutter. There are two variants of drainage; when large amounts of water are expected, it is imperative to drain into the gutter. (USB) With the drip edge, there is always a risk that water runs through the tiles onto the underlay and then over the drip edge uncontrollably downwards.

Drainage on the roof tiles always runs into the gutter.

Ok that doesn't tell me anything. I only know it with a drip edge and that's how it is described in the literature for a gable roof. The underlayment is above the drip edge so that precipitation runs into the gutter. I can't understand where another sheet metal is supposed to go. For me, it is as shown here and according to the state of the art. If it is different for you, a photo would help. I can't imagine it.

No image, but text.

Variant 2: Drainage below the rain gutter
In many cases, variant two is an alternative. The drainage of the rainproof additional measure takes place here below the rain gutter via a drip edge mounted at the rafter end. This is followed by the counter battens and the fascia board for the installation of the rain gutter. The underlay membrane therefore does not drain into the rain gutter, but the drained rainwater drips off below at the drip edge. Since the underlay membrane is laid flat up to the rafter end in this construction, water pooling is excluded. Snow also cannot obstruct the water flow because it accumulates "one level above" in the rain gutter. Snow that is blown into the counter batten level can also trickle out over the drip edge, unless restricted by an insect screen.
