Right time to buy the flooring

Dear Home Builders,

we are currently planning the construction of a prefabricated single-family house. The move-in date will be May 2021.
We will install a design floor as the flooring. For the color selection of the kitchen, doors, and bathroom, we would prefer to decide on a floor now.
However, it doesn’t really make sense yet. If we buy the floor now, we would have to store it for 1 year. If we only select the floor now, we don’t know if it will still be available in a year or if the conditions will be the same.

Is there a right time for us to choose a floor?

Definitely not a year in advance, this is not an item that is hard to find, the flooring can be obtained within a few days. Then you might need a bit more and it might no longer be available or the color might vary slightly. Besides, in a year you might want something different after all, you never know.

Is there a right time for us to choose a floor?

Yes, shortly before you need it. Exception: You find a leftover stock of a special floor. For example, 150 sqm of parquet of a special type of wood or with unusual dimensions. "Design floor" as such is pretty standard – so buy when necessary.

P.S. Design flooring in the bathroom? Are you sure?

We ordered flooring back then in July, on call from the dealer. It works with a local company. Painted in August, flooring laid at the beginning of September, then moved in immediately afterwards.

Actually a brilliant name for a plastic floor covering - "Designboden". Buy the material when you need it. Special offer prices are not one-time only. The selection is huge. Consider again the material choice - and thus also budget distribution. I would be surprised if the house did not smell strange from this material in the first few months after moving in.
