Hello everyone,

we are planning a single-family house with about 140sqm of living space and, like many here in the forum, are torn about the topic of residential ventilation.
Now our architect and heating engineer have recommended Schiedel for the residential ventilation.

Does anyone here have experience with the Schiedel Area-Comfort and can tell us something about it?

Thank you very much

Well, it's a decentralized system again.

Holes are drilled into the walls through which fresh air (cold in winter, warm in summer) flows in... similar to a window rebate ventilation... meaning it always feels a bit uncomfortable near the openings...

The exhaust fan then draws out the used and in winter laboriously heated air from the house... since ducts are also needed to reach all rooms, I see no advantage compared to a central system, except probably the price... but since there is no heat recovery, the central system performs better again.

So why not just do it properly with a central system?

Hello,

I share Mycraft's opinion. If there is going to be a ventilation system in the new building, then only a central system with heat recovery.

Friends of ours also have a system with fresh air intake from outside through ventilation bricks, and it is indeed the case that on the side of the dining table facing the ventilation brick it is usually less comfortable in winter than on the other side.

Another advantage of the central system, I also see in the filtration of fresh air in a central filter. With the decentralized variant, you either have several or, in case of doubt, no filters at all.

Dirk

Hello,

thank you for the initial assessments.

We were told by the heating engineer that the supply air valves operate automatically based on humidity and are set to a certain airflow that is not noticeable.
I would now somewhat disregard heat recovery, as we want to heat with a groundwater heat pump and still get a wood stove for the winter; I could tend to live with the disadvantages without heat recovery.

We are basically talking about a price difference of approximately 5000 euros between central and decentralized.

Yes, then I would change the heating engineer...

Hello,

according to the manufacturer, the mentioned system is suitable for a house size with a maximum living area of 140 sqm. Thus, it is just suitable for the house size you have planned.

I would definitely have the system demonstrated to me in a similarly sized property. As a layperson, I could well imagine that a system that has to operate constantly at its performance limit might not only wear out faster (fans) but could also possibly be audible at the corresponding speed.

Dirk
